The performance knowledge and teaching ability of Conductor/Director
Elana Andrews is widely appreciated in Tasmania’s music community
and, together with the children, she is destined to contribute admirably
to the developing profile of Tasmanian arts.
Sing
Elon - City of Launceston International Choir aims to provide training, performance and
travel opportunities to Tasmania’s talented young singers,
regardless of financial background.
Through
her work with St Cecilia School of Music, Elana Andrews discovered
the depth of talent in Tasmanian singers and wished to create an
opportunity to showcase that talent to the rest of Australia and
to the world. Sing Elon - City of Launceston International Choir tour either nationally
or internationally every year, with the support of Tasmanian businesses.
Sing
Elon - City of Launceston International Choir’s repertoire is diverse with music
chosen to reflect Tasmania and Australia’s multicultural atmosphere.
Songs are chosen to create a varied programme suitable for an audience
of any age or nationality. The choir sings in two, three and four
parts and incorporates the many other talents of its members into
performances.
The
formation of an international standard children’s choir based
in a regional area is no easy feat, but Conductor/Director, Elana
Andrews, has never been one for balking at a challenge. By launching
Sing Elon onto the world stage in September 2004, Elana has set
the foundations for annual international tours with the aim of promoting
Tasmania and Australia’s blossoming musical culture.
As well as annual
tours, Sing Elon - City of Launceston International Choir performs often in its home
state of Tasmania. The choir is a regular performer at St Cecilia
concerts and competitions, they have performed at Launceston Carols
by Candlelight for two years, sung for the Prime Minister and many
politicians, and charity events.
Enthusiasm
and dedication are qualities apparent within Sing Elon - City of Launceston International
Choir’s members.
These
qualities will ensure that they continue to grow musically, achieving
mastery of their vocal skills and elevating the choir to a level
of recognition equal to the internationally acclaimed Rosny Children’s
Choir and the Gondwana Voices.
It
is important that children participate in experiences that not only
develop their musicality but contribute to their knowledge of other
cultures and their music. It is also important that our future leaders
develop world awareness and a sense of civic responsibility.
Elana
Andrews believes that this will be achieved by sharing and experiencing
their own knowledge and understanding of the world with children
from other cultures, while promoting Tasmania and its arts in the
wider world.
